The Heartbreak Of King Arthur Copyright all rights reserved to Monica Pereira 2013 Smashwords Edition King Arthur looked at his men and he knew there was a traitor in them - however he ignored their weakness and turned to Merlin who looked as pale as a sheet as he stared at the world around them. Merlin wanted to run away again, he couldn't believe how many enemies Arthur had! However Arthur needed him now, and so he placed a hand on Merlin's shoulder to warn him that he was to stay. “There is a lesser fate then dying during a battle;” told Arthur as he glared at Merlin searchingly. “I did not foresee this event;” told Merlin as he looked to Arthur. “I saw a white flag cross with red;” he muttered. “I saw two lions meet and the lion on the white flag won;” he added. “It won;” he repeated. “That is a good omen;” muttered Arthur as he looked at his flag which held the crest. “My flag is white, that means I shall win!” he added before he turned to his men. “Did you hear that men! Merlin has stated that our flag shall be victorious!” he yelled. “I saw a flag with a lion!” gasped Arthur. “Not a battle!” he warred. “Never fear Merlin none of us really believe in omens!” told Lancelot as he tapped Merlin on the spine. “Now let us win!” he gasped. Merlin shook his head. A trumpet sounded, however he was far away! He couldn't think, he couldn't see! He was blinded by confusion, so blinded he did not see the battle as it played out. It were as though Merlin had been sent to a different world, and when he woke he stood amongst a field that was as red as sin - the battle had ended and Arthur had won! “What is Arthur? A madman?” gasped Merlin as he glared at the fallen arrow less then a foot away from him. Merlin baulked! He had been so lost in a daydream that he had forgotten where he was. He could have been hit by that arrow, and by the soldier who lay on the grass behind him. “Were you sleeping during battle Merlin?” asked Lancelot as he glared at Merlin and laughed. “Such a lark to see you standing so still as a fierce battle raged around you;” he added. “I saved your life;” he finished as he snorted out another laugh. “I didn't know!” gasped Merlin as he glared at Lancelot. “There is a lot you don't know;” told Lancelot. “Perhaps you should practise in a church;” he finished before he clicked his heels and moved on. Merlin looked at Lancelot's spine with disdain. He wasn't smart about the world, but he knew when he was being picked on - and Lancelot had picked on him! As a result Merlin narrowed his eyes and muttered a spell. In seconds the horse Lancelot rode on bucked until Lancelot fell onto the grass. Lancelot fell onto a dead body, and he reeled a blood spat out from the body and landed on his face. Lancelot turned and looked to Merlin who laughed. He narrowed his eyes. “Is this thanks?” he questioned as he glared at Merlin hard. “I save your life and you thank me with...” Lancelot couldn't finished the sentence, not even he believed in the kind of magic he wanted to accuse Merlin of withholding. Lancelot shrugged and moved to his horse. Sorely he pushed himself onto the horse, and with a snobbish air he moved on. Merlin laughed - however the sky cracked and Merlin glared at it as it turned from white to black. “What has happened?” asked Merlin as he narrowed his eyes. “What is this force of change about, and what has brought it on?” he asked. However Merlin could not answer the question he sowed; the only person who could answer the question was in the wood far away. Arthur gasped as he threw the dead kings heart away. He had killed the last of the enemy, and he had done it on his own. He smiled and then he shivered - there was a chill up his spine, and he knew he had harmed some of his spirit. “There is cold in the air today;” he muttered before he wiped his hands on the grass and then moved back to his horse who grew nervous as Arthur approached. “Never fear horse, this is the blood of the enemy;” muttered Arthur, however the horse grew nervous still, and Arthur was resigned to take its reigns inside of his hand to lead his horse on foot back to the castle. The walk was far, and on the way Arthur thought he heard water, so he pulled his horse off the path and followed his ears to reach the water. When Arthur found the water he felt blessed, and he led the horse to drink as he bathed. Arthur bathed for a good long while until there was no blood on his body, and then he pulled himself out of the water with a smile on his face. “I am cleansed!” he told the horse before he pushed his clothes back onto his form. Suddenly Arthur heard a rustle, and he grabbed his sword as quick as he could as he hid. Arthur waited quietly as he heard secret footsteps step towards the horse, then he jumped out from behind the horse with his sword raise up high to strike the approachers head off! A shrill scream brought him out of his defence and Arthur stabbed the sword into the earth as he saw a woman collapse to the ground. Arthur glared at the woman and even knelt down by her side. She was an interesting looking woman with fine hair, pale face, and something interesting. His body told him he had to make love to her, however she appeared to have fainted and he didn't know how to wake her. Arthur glared at the female and he rubbed her eyes and willed them to open - when the female next opened her eyes she stared straight at him. “What do you want?” she gasped as she glared at Arthur as though he were a bread boy. “I have an interest;” gasped Arthur as he glared at the female. “I must lay with you;” he drawled. “Who are you?” asked the female. “King Arthur;” told Arthur. The female almost dropped her jaw and lost her whole demure attitude; her face read shock - she couldn't believe that he was a king! “So fine of face...” she muttered as she glared at Arthur. “You seem far too young;” she announced. “I am the right age;” told Arthur as he glared at her. “But you seem...” muttered the female as she lost colour on her face. Arthur took off his shirt, and then he loosened his pants. “Too forward...” muttered the female. “Does the king not keep his promises?” she then questioned as she glared at Arthur's matrimonial ring. The female caught Arthur's hand and rubbed her fingers along the band. Arthur glared at his finger, and he blinked. He had cleanly forgotten the vows he had spilled before the priest, before Merlin, before God. Arthur shrugged as he felt a pinch - he wished the woman hadn't the nerve to remind him; suddenly Arthur could almost see his wife, and he began to feel guilt in his chest. Arthur looked around and he saw nothing - there was no one around, not even the sun's rays could touch him. Arthur smiled; he was alone with a woman he wanted to make love to, and so he opened the woman's thighs and with a knife he cut off all the things that caused him hindrance. He then smiled as he reached out in order to keep the woman stapled to the earth. He wanted her - not even an apple could distract him from the task! He wanted her, it was an unnatural calling which pushed him to the thrust he next actioned. The female cried out - however she was far away! He was the world, and he was holding hard onto all the things he wanted, all the things he needed; all the world! Arthur panted as he took the woman to make a bed on the bright green earth, and together they formed a union of a secret nature until her womb had been filled with his royal seed! The female shivered as she looked to Arthur who glared at her with a light attached to his spine. “What are you?” she gasped. “Jesus? The lamb?” she questioned. “I am King Arthur the lion!” gasped Arthur. “You are my lamb;” he then muttered before he leaned down to issue a kiss which made the female almost lose her breath. Arthur rode into his castle gates and he met Merlin at the door of the castle. “What have you done?” gasped Merlin. “I know that you have done something!” he muttered. “What happened in the forest?” “Nothing you should care about;” told Arthur as he moved to walk past. “The sky has turned black! What did you do to our enemy?” asked Merlin. “I cut out his heart;” told Arthur as he glared at Merlin. “What the matter of it?” he asked. “The sky has turned black is what the matter is!” gasped Merlin as he glared at Arthur. “You have change the world in one swift movement;” he warred. “So what? It needed to be done!” gasped Arthur. Merlin stepped to the side as Arthur moved to storm the entrance. Merlin glared at Arthur who turned to face him once again - Merlin could see there was something inside of his eyes, something had happened. “You know what it wrong;” told Merlin as he glared at Arthur. “You will know how to fix it if the sky does not turn back the other way;” he muttered. “It is but a storm!” gasped Arthur. “It is but a beast!” gasped Merlin. “You take care in what you do and understand there are circumstances;” he muttered. “I have done nothing - the enemy has been slain!” gasped Arthur as he glared at Merlin. “So go and dig at something else, I am sick of your company!” he warred before he stepped inside. Arthur moved into the castle and raced up the stairs to his royal bedroom. Inside of his room laid Guinevere, his wife. Arthur wanted to greet her, however he dared not! So he pulled away as he smeared his unforgiven kiss over his lips. Outside there was a flash! Merlin listened to the sound, and in the far distance he heard a baby wail! A child had just been born, and Merlin grew scared for it as it screamed! He took to flight! He turned into a bird and took to flight! He flew over the castle walls and headed straight for the forest! It took a little while, but in the end Merlin found a woman with a child on the grass where she lay. Merlin sunk to the earth and turned into human form. He then moved to the woman, and he washed the child in the nearby water. When the child had been cleansed Merlin returned the child to the woman who looked to him with eyes that were already half asleep. “Woman you have had a child;” told Merlin as he folded the child inside of the stranger's arms. She was a sight to see - however the woman recoiled when she touched the body of the child. “Who is the father? Perhaps I can send him to make a bed to carry you to;” he announced. “This is an unreal child - I would confess my sin, however it is so unbelievable not even I could listen and not make fun!” she gasped. “What do you mean unreal? The child is here;” told Merlin as he pressed on the woman's hands to let her know what she held. “Then has it been a year? I would swear in my heart I only made love seconds ago;” she announced. “It is the month of May;” told Merlin. “Yes, and it should be the twenty-fifth day!” gasped the woman. “It is;” smiled Merlin. “Then I am not mistaken!” gasped the woman. “I was laid by the king this very afternoon as I came to the stream for a drink;” told the woman. “King? What king?” asked Merlin as he narrowed his eyes. “King Arthur;” told the woman. “He met me with his sword raised, and as soon as he saw me he put his sword into the earth;” she stated. “He pushed himself onto me while I protested that he should be true to the ring on his finger;” she muttered. “I was honest, and he told me he cared only to lay with me – and so he did;” she announced. “This is why I have come to birth a child;” she muttered as she felt her face pale. “His seed was full and grew fast;” she announced. “This is a lie, this is a treachery!” gasped Arthur as he glared at the woman. “I tell you to hold your tongue lest I get you arrested!” he muttered. “It is not a lie! I did lay with the King named Arthur and he told me he was not a lamb but a lion!” she gasped. “A lie!” gasped Merlin before he turned into a beast and attacked the woman who still had dew over her stare. The woman's throat was torn out as Merlin bit, and she gurgled on her blood as Merlin's claws made shreds of her flesh! The earth was pooled in blood by the time Merlin had finished, and when the woman's child opened his eyes and turned to scream Merlin lunged and tore his own weak body in half with a few swipes of his paws! Arthur grunted as he felt a pain, and he lifted his shirt to reveal a large scratch! He winced, and then he glared outside. There was something wrong, and his sixth sense told him to return to the forest! So Arthur raced of the castle and took his horse! He rode like the wind, and then he screamed as he saw a beast on the remains of the woman whose child's head lay only meters away from what had once been her arm! “What are you?” gasped Arthur before he picked up his sword and moved to strike the beast. “What are you? How dare you best!” he gasped before he lunged and struck the beast in the ribs. A human scream was heard, and the beast cowered as Arthur took his sword out from the beasts body. Arthur held the sword up high, and he moved to swing - however the beast turned into Merlin and Merlin threw a stone at Arthur's head! Arthur growled at Merlin after he had been hit and he grew a flag of red inside of his mind. Merlin looked to Arthur and saw a shadow halo his head as though he had a flag behind it. Merlin gasped, and then he moved to scramble away. “You have killed a woman!” gasped Arthur. “You have killed a child!” he added. “She said it was your child!” gasped Merlin. “What was I to think?” he asked. “Such a claim is treason!” he added. “Think again!” told Arthur before he lifted up his robe to show Merlin his scratch. “Well don't lose your head, I cut the child's head off too!” told Merlin before he turned into a bird and flew away. “You die if you step onto my land again Merlin!” gasped Arthur as he shook his sword to the sky. “You will never be forgiven!” he added. “Then goodbye Arthur! I hope we never meet!” told Merlin in spirit before he flew away. Arthur looked at the remains of the woman, and then to the child's head. He picked up both and put them into the water, and as soon as the water had turned red he spat in it and left! Arthur sulked on his throne as he glared at his army. He didn't want to be king, he didn't want to fight - he wanted them to die so that he could be left in peace, he didn't want to be alive any-more; inside of his mind he was still drowning. “I have come to announce my retire;” told Arthur. “Surely not!” gasped one of his men. “Surely so;” told Arthur as he glared at his men. “I shall leave to wander the forest, and one of you shall continue on with my deed;” he announced. “But why my lord?” asked one of the men. “Because I will it;” told Arthur as he glared at his men. “I will it;” he added. “Then it shall be done;” told one of his men as they began to grow weak of will. “However you shall be missed;” he added. “I am sorry, but there is no other way;” told Arthur as he glared. “Then good luck to you;” told another one of the men who smiled to Arthur with a twisted grin. Arthur knew he wanted the throne, and so he passed the good soldier his crown before he waved and moved to leave. “I will never know you a day from today;” muttered Arthur before he left. Arthur walked deep into the forest and he moved to find the pool in which he had left the woman and child. He wished to drown himself, but a shadow found him and stalked him before he could. Arthur looked at the shadow and drew his sword. “What are you?” he asked. “Your death;” told the shadow before a spear was launched! Arthur fell onto the green grass and gasped as he glared at himself and saw he had a spear deep inside of his body. Arthur laughed, and then he began to grow weak as he felt pain deeper then any he had felt before. Arthur struggled with the pain for hours, and then as the ground began to shadow he died. Merlin walked up to Arthur and glared at his dead body - he removed the spear and sobbed until the skin healed. To Merlin Arthur wasn't dead, and so Merlin picked up Arthur's body and transported him to a temple to ensure Arthur would be cleaned until his skin began to turn ash-grey. However Arthur's skin did not change from white, and to this day wash women continue to serve him by washing his skin to keep it pure and cleansed. Arthur lives, and one day when the world has been forgiven he shall be raised from the dead in order to meet the world once again - however until that time war will ravage the land as the corrupt rule with swords on their backs, and people will die no matter if they are enemy or friend! The hearts of Arthur's men were left bitter and on their pride and they will march to create doom until King Arthur is allowed to return.
