Anne smiled to Jacob who smoked by the side of the car. She had wanted them to have a successful date - however he had turned cold after she had told him about her college dreams. She didn't know what was wrong with having dreams of school after school, but Jacob had snapped like a twig and he had slipped out of the car to spend some time alone.

“I am not very good with charm;” she muttered to herself as she felt deflated and alone. “I wish I hadn't tried to impress Jacob;” she added before she crossed her arms.

Jacob smoked and blew white into the air before he bunted the cigarette and then lit another. He had smoked two - Anne hoped that he would quit before her clothes were turned into a casino room.

“Are you not going to come in yet?” asked Anne as she tried to hold back her temper.

Jacob shrugged and walked away from the car. He lit another cigarette and smoked two at the same time - Anne saw him cough and she narrowed her eyes; she hoped that he would choke!

Jacob strolled to the shoreline and sat on the sand. Anne wanted to go to sit by him, but she hadn't the nerve. He was already on a different level, and she didn't want to make him want to dive into the ice cold ocean; she figured it were best if she stayed in the car alone, and so that is what she did.

Anne looked at the car - it was grubby but it was also well composed; it just needed a good vacuum and all the dirt and crumble would go. Anne wished she had a vacuum then she could show Jacob how good a cleaner she was - that would make the disastrous date complete, but at least he might be able to say thank-you at its end!

“I am a loser!” gasped Anne as she blinked her eyes and raised them to the ceiling. “What made me think I could handle a guy like Jacob?” she asked. “He is moody, he is a loner, he is an ice cold personality who smiles every now and again!” she told. “What a high strung disaster!” she called out to soothe herself. “I wish we were closer to home!” she gasped before she settled down.

Anne looked at the shoreline as the silence in the car drowned out her ears. She wanted Jacob to return, however he lhad aid himself down on the sand as he continued to smoke; Anne decided to lay back as well.

Anne pulled back her seat so that it slanted on an angle and she sighed - her night had been ruined by her wandering mouth and she had only a frown to show for her bother.

“I want to go home;” she sulked before she closed her eyes.

Silence hung over her head, but at least time passed quickly.

Anne opened her eyes as Jacob opened the car door. She glared at him - he had gone for a swim and returned wet.

“I didn't see you enter the ocean;” told Anne as she yawned.

“I did it half an hour ago;” told Jacob as he shivered through his teeth.

“Can you take me home?” asked Anne as she narrowed her eyes.

Jacob sniffled as he glared at Anne under his eye-lids - he looked as though he wanted to say 'no', but after a moment he said 'okay'. Anne smiled as Jacob started the car, and in a few moments he backed out of the parking lot.

“Why are you so slow?” asked Anne as she grew anxious over Jacob's cautious back-up.

“You can hit things in the dark;” muttered Jacob as he sniffled to himself. “I just like to be safe;” he added.

Anne shrugged and yawned as the car slowly turned around. She then leaned on her elbow as the car quietly drove down the entrance and onto the main road.

On the road the car went at a granny's pace. Anne wanted to complain - however Jacob seemed a little chilled and she watched him as he shivered.

“Do you need to go to a hospital?” she asked as she narrowed her eyes.

“No!” gasped Jacob before he winced.

Anne wanted to tell him to pull over, but she doubted that he would listen.

“Should I check you for a sting?” asked Anne.

“No, don't be silly;” muttered Jacob as he drove on.

Anne tried to keep her own business, however she couldn't. She looked at Jacob and she wondered what was wrong? Anne kept her eye on him as he drove, and she didn't flinch a muscle until she saw a bead of red across his neck.

“Is that a sting?” she asked as she leaned forward.

Anne looked at Jacob's neckline and saw something thin and small inside a layer of skin. She fingered its outer rim where the skin looked puffy and Jacob yelled.

“Get back to your seat I am driving!” he gasped.

Anne slid back and she kept to herself.

“There is something inside of your neck;” she told.

“I don't know!” gasped Jacob before he continued to drive.

“If you need to go to the hospital...” began Anne.

“I will drop you home!” gasped Jacob before he grabbed a cigarette from the dashboard and lit it. “No problem;” he added as he continued to focus on the road.

“Okay;” muttered Anne before she placed her hands on her lap and sat.

When at her front driveway Anne turned to Jacob - his face was as pale as ice! Anne shook her head.

“You did get stung!” she gasped before she leaned forward to inspect Jacob's neck.

Anne fingered the sting inside of Jacob's neck, and she pricked her finger!

“Ow!” gasped Anne as she withdrew her hand.

“See you got stung! Now leave! I want to go home!” gasped Jacob as he shoved Anne away.

“Fine!” gasped Anne as she sucked on her finger. “I was just trying to help!” she added. “See a doctor!” she then advised before she exited the car.

Anne walked to the front door of her house as the car hummed behind her. Anne walked inside and met a quiet home - most of her family were in bed. Anne wanted to smile, but an ice-cold sensation rushed through her as her finger throbbed and she began to see double vision.

“Anne is that you?” asked her brother Paul who seemed to slip out between a door crack.

Anne moaned and after she saw a swirl of lights circled before her she fell onto the floor. Paul gasped!

“Anne!” he shouted as he shook Anne's shoulders. “What has happened?” he asked. “Dad!” he then yelled.

Their father Carl emerged from the nearby study.

“What is it” he asked, however as soon as he saw Anne on the floor he gasped. “What has happened?” he questioned as he checked Anne's pulse. “Call a doctor quick!” he shouted. “Call an ambulance!” he then ordered.

“Right;” muttered Paul before he rushed to the telephone.

Carl looked at the front door - he heard an engine and he raced to the car on driveway before it vacated.

Carl rushed to the drivers side and pulled open the door!

“What have you two kids been doing!” he asked in fevered tone.

However Jacob's body was limp and as soon as Carl touched Jacob's skin he jumped.

“He is dead cold!” he gasped. “These two need to go to the hospital!” he then added before the scent of cigarette smoke distracted him.

Carl looked at the steering wheel and noticed a cigarette that burned on the dashboard. Jacobs fingers had dropped it as his arm had rested on the steering wheel. Carl picked up the cigarette and then he backed away; however the sight of a blemish on Jacob's neckline distracted Carl, and he leaned forward and poked the blemish with his finger.

“Ow!” gasped Carl before he backed away again. “There is a sting in there!” he muttered before he sucked on his finger.

Carl ground the cigarette on the cement and marched towards the front door of his home. There he noticed a scream inside of his ears, and as he turned around he saw an ambulance.

Carl raced up to the ambulance officers.

“There is a kid inside and a kid in the car!” he gasped before a wave of nausea made him drop onto the lawn.

“Then there is you;” added the ambulance officer before he helped Carl onto the stretcher. “Call for backup, there is one too many here;” he told the driver before he strapped Carl onto the stretcher and wheeled him inside of the ambulance.

Carl gasped as he felt his mind swirl. He was sure he had been poisoned, but he didn't know by what. The colours of the ambulance danced before his eyes, and then he blacked out. Carl heard nothing until Paul woke up his face with a slap.

“Anne and Jacob are gone!” he gasped. “Don't you die too!” he muttered.

“Die?” gasped Carl as he blinked down a haze that had welled in front of his eyes. “Die!” he gasped, however an ambulance officer put a mask over his face and he spoke no more as he was driven to a hospital that waited to greet him with needles and test charts while the other two kids were driven to the morgue in black body bags.
